What We're Actually Looking For in a Correction Consultation
When a new guest sits in the chair for a correction consult, we're reading the hair the way a mechanic listens to an engine. We're checking:
- Porosity and condition — how much the hair can safely take before we risk breakage
- Underlying pigment — what's actually sitting under the colour you can see, which determines how it will lift
- Banding and demarcation lines — where old colour meets regrowth, and how obvious that line will be once we start
- How many sessions it will realistically take — because rushing a correction is how hair breaks off

Grey Blending and Going From Dark to Light
Two of the most common corrections we see are grey coverage that's gone flat and lifeless, and hair that's been dark — naturally, or from years of box dye — that a client wants lifted to a genuinely lighter, brighter colour. Both are patience jobs, not single-appointment jobs. Grey blending done properly should look like dimension woven through the hair, not a solid block of colour fighting your regrowth every three weeks. Going from dark to light is even more staged: we lift in controlled steps, protecting the hair's structure at every level, rather than forcing it pale in one sitting and risking the ends. The result, done right, is colour that grows out softly in both directions — no harsh line at the root, and no straw-like ends from rushing the lift.

Be wary of anyone who promises a dramatic correction — like years of at-home box dye lifted to blonde — in a single appointment. Healthy correction work is staged: we lift in controlled steps, condition between sessions, and check the hair's condition at every stage before deciding whether it's ready for the next one. It sometimes takes longer than clients expect. It's also the difference between hair that survives the process and hair that doesn't.
