Journal: Consultation Decoded

From William Street to Beaufort Street: Northbridge's Short Walk to Bureau

by Bureau The Salon on Aug 12, 2026

Northbridge and Highgate share a border, not just a general neighbourhood. Walk north from the Perth Cultural Centre or up William Street past Chinatown, and Northbridge tips into Highgate without any real gap — Beaufort Street just keeps running. 444 Beaufort St is close enough that plenty of our Northbridge clients treat us as a short walk, not a trip.

Northbridge runs on a different rhythm to most Perth suburbs. It's Perth's entertainment and arts precinct properly — the Perth Cultural Centre, the State Theatre Centre, the bar and restaurant strip along James Street and William Street, a genuinely late crowd on weekends mixed in with daytime gallery and museum visitors and a growing number of apartment residents who actually live there full-time. That mix shows up in the chair.

Hair that has to work at night

A lot of our Northbridge consultations start with some version of: I need this to still look good at 11pm, not just when I walk out of the salon. That's a fair and specific brief, and it changes how we approach styling advice and colour placement — colour that reads well under warm bar lighting isn't necessarily the same as colour that photographs best in daylight, and we factor that in when we're talking through tone. It's also part of why lower-maintenance, dimensional colour like balayage has taken over from flat block colour for a lot of our Northbridge regulars — it holds its shape between salon visits instead of showing a sharp regrowth line two weeks after a big night out. There's more on that shift in our piece on buttery balayage.

Apartment living and low-maintenance routines

Northbridge's newer apartment stock means a lot of clients are working with small bathrooms and shorter routines, not a full styling station at home. In consultation we talk through that honestly — what a cut or colour actually needs in terms of daily upkeep, and which product range will do the most with the least effort. We generally recommend from System Professional, Nioxin, Sebastian Professional or Wella Pro depending on hair type and what the service actually needs, and we cover the reasoning on our aftercare page.

Precision cuts and texture

We also see a strong appetite in Northbridge for texture — perms, in particular, have come back in a real way, both the tighter wolf spiral and the softer volumizing version — and for sharper, more considered cuts generally. If that's on your radar, our perms guide breaks down which style actually suits which hair type and face shape.

Getting here

It's genuinely one of the easiest trips on this list — a short walk up William Street or a quick drive if you're coming from further into Northbridge, with metered and side-street parking on and around Beaufort Street. Full details are on our contact page, and our services page has the full menu if you're figuring out what to book.
