Ask someone from Melbourne or Sydney where Highgate is and you'll get a blank look. Ask someone from Perth and most will place it correctly within about thirty seconds: that little strip between Northbridge and Mount Lawley, on Beaufort Street, near the cemetery. That's roughly right, and it's exactly why we opened here.
Highgate isn't a suburb with a single postcard image. It's workers' cottages on quiet side streets a block back from the traffic, newer apartment blocks going up along William Street and Lord Street, the old sandstone boundary of Perth's East Perth Cemeteries on one edge, and a run of cafes, bars and small businesses along Beaufort Street itself that doesn't really stop — it just changes character as it crosses into Mount Lawley to the north and Northbridge to the south. 444 Beaufort St sits right in the middle of that stretch.
Why here, specifically
We didn't pick Highgate because it was cheap or convenient — we picked it because of who walks past. This part of Beaufort Street pulls a mix you don't get in a suburban strip mall: inner-city renters who want their colour to survive a Perth summer without four salon visits, Mount Lawley locals who cut through on their way into the city, Northbridge regulars who'd rather have a proper consultation than a walk-in chain experience, and East Perth apartment dwellers who'd sooner cross a couple of streets than drive out to the suburbs. It's a genuinely mixed client base, and it keeps the work interesting — colour correction, extensions, precision cuts and texture services in the same week, not one look on repeat.
Getting here
Beaufort Street has metered and side-street parking, and if you're coming from Northbridge or the city, it's an easy walk up from the William Street end. Parking in this pocket of Perth isn't always straightforward at peak times, so if you're unsure, give us a call on 0430 649 149 before your appointment and we'll point you to the easiest spot. Full details, including how to find us, are on our contact page.
What actually happens once you're in the chair
Being a neighbourhood salon doesn't mean a limited menu. We run full consultations for colour work — balayage, colour correction, foil work — cutting, texture services like perms, and extensions, and we talk clients through aftercare using product ranges we actually trust: System Professional, Nioxin, Sebastian Professional and Wella Pro, matched to what your hair needs rather than whatever's easiest to upsell. If you're new to the salon and want to know what to expect before you book, our FAQ page covers the practical stuff, and our services page has the full list of what we offer.
