The Applecross Client's Guide to Getting Colour Right at Bureau The Salon

by Bureau The Salon on Aug 17, 2026

Applecross doesn't have a shortage of good salons. It has excellent cafes, a foreshore worth the walk, and enough disposable income that most services are a five-minute drive from home. So when someone from Applecross books in at 444 Beaufort St, Highgate, it's rarely because there was nothing closer — it's because they've already tried closer, and it didn't fix the problem.

The trip is real, and we won't pretend otherwise

Let's be upfront: Applecross to Highgate is a genuine cross-town drive, not a suburb hop. You're coming off the Canning River side, through South Perth or over the Narrows, and up past the CBD fringe to get to us. If you're not driving, the Canning Bridge train station on the Mandurah line puts you a short ride from the city, with a connecting trip out to Beaufort St from there. Either way, it's a deliberate booking, not a drop-in — which is exactly the kind of appointment we want on the books, because it means you've come for something specific.

What actually brings Applecross clients across the river

Two things, mostly: colour correction and Airtouch balayage. Both are technique-heavy services where the gap between "a colourist who's done a few" and "a colourist who does this every week" shows up fast — in how even the regrowth blends, whether the previous colour's underlying warmth was actually neutralised or just covered up, and whether the foil pattern still looks intentional six weeks later.

Colour correction in particular isn't a service you want to gamble on locally if your last colourist already got it wrong once. We walk through exactly what's happening with your hair's existing pigment before we touch a bowl of colour — you can read more about how that consultation actually runs in our piece on colour correction consultations. Airtouch is a slower, more deliberate foiling technique than standard balayage, and it's genuinely not offered everywhere — we've written about how it compares to highlights and teasylights here if you're deciding which approach suits your hair.

What to expect once you're here

Because you've made the trip, we treat the first visit as a proper consultation, not a rushed five-minute chat before the gown goes on. We'll ask about your colour history honestly — box dye, previous salon colour, how it's faded — because that history changes the formula. We use Wella Pro and System Professional across our colour work, both of which give us the range to correct warmth or tone without over-processing hair that may already be compromised.

Aftercare matters more for river-crossing clients, too, simply because you're not popping back in for a toner top-up on a whim. We'll send you home with a proper plan — what to use, how often, and when to book your next appointment — so the colour holds until you're back. Our aftercare guide covers the basics if you want to read up before you come in.

If you're weighing up whether the drive is worth it, have a look at our full services list or get in touch via our FAQ page if you've got specific questions about your hair before booking.
